Opening Remarks for Queen Mother Pageant

 Found this in an old album created in February 2019. I can’t even remember if I ever delivered what I wrote but after reading this, I thought it was stuff good enough to share…


I. Why I was asked to give the welcome remarks: Not because I am beautiful but because I am only 1 of 2 seniors in the Execom. 

II. Pero sa totoo lang kahit feel ng nanay at tatay ko na maganda ako, hindi naman ako pinasali sa beauty contest nang bata pa ako. At alam ko na kung bakit! Kailangan kasi maputi, sexy, at matangkad. E hanggang height lang meron ako!

     A. Too dark, black beauty

     C. Too thin

III. Good thing these standards of beauty no longer apply to us. For me, the standards of beauty change when we reach our Senior years

      A. Instead of a shapely body, our lumps and bumps are beautiful because these are the evidence to we carried a child, brought it to life, and prepared many meals for our family’s sustenance. 

      B. Instead of long-lashed, bright eyes, eyes with dark circles are beautiful because of they are the result of many sleepless nights we had to stay to take care of our sick children 

      C. Instead of smooth skin on our faces and hands, our wrinkles from smiling at our family’s achievements and funny antics and worrying about the safety of our family are our marks of beauty.

  • IV. Most important feature of beauty: No longer physical

      A. We are beautiful because we have imparted values and lessons which have made members of our family good and kind persons

      B. We are beautiful because the Lord takes delight in us during the countless times pleading in behalf our husband, children, neighbors, and friends for physical and spiritual healing and we thank him for unexpected blessings!

V. So thank you to our dear candidates for Queen Mother for showcasing what being a real beauty is all about! Spread the word that it is about a woman’s strength to overcome obstacles and challenges, it is all about being in the service of others, and lastly, it is receiving the grace and love of God to make the world a better place to live in! 

      

             Salamat sa ating mga kandidata para sa Queen Mother sa pagpapakita sa aming lahat ang tatak ng tunay na kagandahan. Ipamalas natin sa lahat na ang ating kalakasan sa paglampas mga mga hadlang at paghamon. Ito ay tungkol sa paglilingkd sa ating kapwa, at panghuli, sa pagtanggap sa grasya at pag-ibig ng Diyos upang mapabuti ang ating mga buti dito sa mundo!

Falling out of Love?

Tree in the Academic Oval For the last 17 years, I've been having a affair... with teaching... at UP. Being a teacher at UP has always made me feel like I'm in a forbidden romance. Many days, I  feel giddy just being here but for an equal amount of days, I feel unworthy to be part of such an illustrious institution.  As an undergraduate student,  I was in awe of my professors.
