Borrowing a friend’s reflection

A long-lost friend I had not spoken to for years suddenly showed up in a social media feed a few months ago. We have since progressed from sharing memes and music to looking into how life has been since we last talked. Here’s one of his reflections that he shared with me ...

 - The reason why God allowed a friend to walk away or a door closed because they are ‘limiting’ you

- God would have not allowed it if He has nothing better as a replacement 

- The same thing happened with the people of Israel, after 40 years of being supplied with daily mana one day their supply ceases to come. 

- It was because God planned it only to be temporary

- God promised them a land flowing with milk and honey

- In the same way, God’s plan for your life is bigger than your own

- God is about to launch you to a new level of your profession, new level of your abilities, and new level  of your capacities...

- The challenge is not to have a ‘mana mentality’.

- If your mana stopped, it was not supposed to be permanent

- Hence, don’t be sour. You have to accept that you are about to come to your ‘Promised Land’. 

- As slaves in Egypt God sent plagues to convince Pharaoh to set the Israelites free; when the Pharaoh changed his mind, God divided the Red Sea; when they had no water in the desert God let water flow from the rock...

- As you are nearing your Promise Land God will slowly do less for you. 

- No more daily mana...You have to COOK YOUR OWN FOOD

- God said I’ll bring the walls of Jericho down but you have to march around it 7x.

- The day is over when God had to do almost everything for them;  supply them with daily mana.

- With the Promise Land you will have a new set of responsibilities. He wants you to stand on your own.

- All through the day start saying to yourself: God being for me who can be against me?

- To enter your Promise Land you have to fend for yourself

- But rest assured: Things will shift in your favor and you will experience the fulness of who you were created to be. 

- You have to say ‘goodbye to the familiar’, 

- If you are not willing to do so you will not reach and experience your Promise Land

Me:  Yes, life on earth is a never-ending journey! Most of the time, we move forward. Other times, we go around on circles. Sometimes, we go back to where we erred so we can correct mistakes. And sometimes, only if we have righted the wrong and the wound, healed can we then move on!

Falling out of Love?

Tree in the Academic Oval For the last 17 years, I've been having a affair... with teaching... at UP. Being a teacher at UP has always made me feel like I'm in a forbidden romance. Many days, I  feel giddy just being here but for an equal amount of days, I feel unworthy to be part of such an illustrious institution.  As an undergraduate student,  I was in awe of my professors. There they were, up in the star-decked sky and I could only marvel at their brilliance from my place among the riffraff of the academic world. Although I grew up helping my teacher mother with her preparations for class,  entering the academe was never part of my plan on how to conquer the world.
